The Best Way To Get To The Airport

May 10, 2013 by The Runaway Guide Leave a Comment

parkingIf you’re embarking on an overseas adventure or holiday, you’re going to have to decide on the best way to get to get to your local airport. The train can be fast but often on the pricy side. The bus is generally much cheaper but is often less reliable and slower.  Finally, driving your own car is comfortable and quick but you may end up paying a small fortune in parking. With all these options, how do you decide on the best means of airport transport for you?

In the following guide you will find the pros and cons of all your options vis a vis you’re desired level of comfort, trip duration, and budget.

Take The Train

The train is generally you’re fastest option. It never has to stop to fix a flat tire, it doesn’t have to slow down in bad weather, and in many cases it will bring you to within stone throw of the airport it’s self.

On the other hand, the train, especially in recent years has become rather expensive. From downtown London to London Heathrow, you’re looking at a fare of 16.50. Not exorbitant by any means but still much more expensive than say Mega Bus or any number of busses that make the same trip.

Take The Bus

The Bus is almost always the cheapest way to go. This is especially true if you book in advance. Many buss companies such as Easy Bus even offer fares of one pound if booked in advance. But be sure to compare Megabus and the National Express to find the best rate.

Though the bus may be cheap, it is susceptible to traffic, breakdowns, and bad weather, and can often be late. While it’s a more punctual means in the country side, it’s not so reliable during big city rush hours.

Drive Yourself

Driving yourself to the airport in your own car is comfortable. It will get you to the airport on time as long as you manage to leave the house on time.

However, driving yourself means you’re also susceptible to traffic delays, breakdowns, and tolls. Not to mention, driving means you’re going to have to park your car at the airport. While in the past parking at the airport has been an expensive hassle, with the advent of airport parking services such as Park BCP, parking your car at the airport has never been easier.

For example, if you’re interested in Newcastle airport parking, Park BCP offers you a few different options. You can drive to their designated parking area and then take a free shuttle to the terminal or you can even be met at the terminal where a chauffer will taxi your vehicle to their lot.

Both short term and long term parking rates are competitive and much less than you might think. However, each airport is different so be sure to compare airport parking on their website.

Conclusion

Although you could take public transportation, if you want to get to the airport in comfort and on your time, driving yourself is the way to go. While in the past airport parking has been uneconomical and simply another thing to worry about, today through companies such as Park BCP, parking your car at the airport can be done stress free and even for cheap.
