How to Relax While Traveling in the UK

August 16, 2012 by The Runaway Guide Leave a Comment

people walking near the parliament in londonTraveling in the UK can often be quite hectic. From the traffic of London, the crowded “tube,” and the packed airports, to the swarming tourists attractions, it is easy to get a bit stressed out. Fortunately, there are plenty of activities in London and around the UK that can help calm the calamity and help you relax.

Hit the Pubs on a Sunday

No matter where you are in the UK, one of the best places to take a load off is at the all too famous British Pub. The best day to head to the pub is on a Sunday. On Sundays, the pubs are generally filled with a jovial lot. Some of them just got out of Church and want to drown away the protestant guilt and others are simply regular alcoholics. Sometimes entire families will be there, from children and infants to grandparents. The atmosphere is usually quaint with calming dim lights. And after a couple of Guinness’s or ‘snake bites,’ you’re sure to become quite at ease and probably a bit something else.

Take a Walk in the Country Side

Although the UK is a pretty crowded country in terms of population to land ratio, there are still plenty of green rolling hills and forests to take a relaxing stroll through. If you can’t get out of London, then your best bet for some greenery is Hyde Park. Hyde Park is the largest park in downtown London and makes you feel as though you’re miles away from the bustle. There are plenty relaxing activities to do as well, from visiting the historic Kensington Gardens to taking a boat ride or sipping afternoon tea on the lake. Whether you take a walk in the park or way out in the countryside, it is bound to be a tranquil and mind clearing activity.

Pamper Yourself with a Day at the Spa

Taking spa breaks in the UK will without a doubt calm your nerves and help you feel clean and refreshed again. There are plenty of spas throughout the UK and there are even a few that are geothermal. Most places have spa day offers that are reasonably priced. Although this option is mainly for the ladies, there’s no rule that says guys can’t come along and get pampered too. So, no matter who you are, nothing beats relaxing at a spa in the UK for a day.

Take a Boat Down the Thames

One of the most relaxing ways of seeing the city of London and other major cities in the UK is by river or canal cruise. In London, Thames river cruises depart around the clock and head for all major city centers. They are well priced at around 8 pounds, usually have great guides, and all you have to do is just sit back and enjoy. The other option is the canal cruise. However, this is more on the pricey side, usually costing over 100 pounds. No matter which cruise you decide on, you are sure to relax with the roll of the waves.

Conclusion

Although the UK is cramped and busy, there are still plenty of activities that will help you relax during your travels in the UK. If you’ve got the money, heading to a day spa or taking the canal cruise is definitely worth it. If you’re on a budget, then a walk in the park or Sunday at pub will prove just as pleasant. So, next time you’re traveling in the UK and need a break, be sure to remember this guide. Good luck and
