To Drive or Not To Drive? The Most Cost Effective Way To Get To The Airport

April 7, 2013 by The Runaway Guide Leave a Comment

airport-parkingYou need to get to the airport but aren’t fortunate enough to live near a reliable train or bus service. You have good for nothing friends who unfortunately can’t stop drinking long enough in order for their snake bite stained smiles to dissolve. Now you have to make a decision. To drive or not to drive?

If you decide to take a car service or taxi you need to be prepared to pay a small ransom and a tip. But if you decide to drive you are also going to pay a small fortune for airport parking.

Although it is often more cost effective to take a car service if you’re embarking on long trips, with airport parking services in the UK, you can drive yourself and store your car for much less than you might think.

Car Service Vs. Self Drive

A car service helps to keep you on time and removes driving related stress. Unfortunately, if you live an hour or more away from the airport it can often cost upwards of 100 pounds plus a tip. Practically the same cost if than more than what you paid for your flight. As a result, car services are most economical for those who live in close proximity to the airport.

However, since many of us live a fair distance from our airports, it is often cheaper, to simply drive yourself. Even if your trip is three weeks or longer, your parking fees will generally work out cheaper than a round trip car service. Plus with secure and protected storage facilities, your car might even be safer than it would be back at home.

Airport Parking Services That Will Save You Money

Airparks is one company that not only offers you a valet service but also the guaranteed lowest price on long term parking fees and even hotels.

Basically, all you have to do is drive to your terminal and an Airparks driver will park your car for you. And when you return, depending on the airport, they will return your car right to you. It is the convenience of a car service but without the hefty fare.

Airport parking rates very much depend on the airport and length of stay. As a special at some airports, parks for longer than 22 days cost around 2 pounds a day. However, Bristol Airport Parking fares for one week cost around 6 pounds a day. If your looking for Edinburgh Airport Parking for one week, you are looking at about 7 pounds a day. And finally if your interested in Airport Parking Luton, it goes for a similar price for around 8 pounds a day. If you’re staying longer than a week, often prices per day are reduced.

Conclusion

Unless you detest driving to the airport and have money to blow, by all means take a car service. However, if you drive yourself and are planning to be away for anywhere between 1 day or 1 month, driving your self will be the cheapest option. Plus if you utilize the services of airport parking services such as Airpark, you also get the convenience of a valet service. And after you’ve figured out your parking strategy and need to find that cheap flight, be sure to check out this guide, How To Fly Cheap.
