Keeping Connected While On The Road

August 14, 2012 by The Runaway Guide Leave a Comment

One of the best parts about being on the road is being free. No longer must you be a slave to your phone. You can go where you want, when you want, and not have to answer to anyone. However, unless you’re a complete loser and have no friends, eventually you are going to want to call home. While in the 90’s, those tricky phone cards and expensive international calling booths were the best way to call home, today, with advances in internet speeds, internet phone services are leading the way. Most of us are familiar with Skype but many of us don’t realize that other similar companies do exist. In this review, we will compare the leading internet phone service Skype with a rapidly growing company called Rebtel.

Skype Pros: Skype without a doubt has the most users and therefore allows you to potentially make more free computer to computer calls between you and your friends. Additionally, Skype has a very good video chatting layout. It is simple yet has many useful options. These include a mute button, and a video record option. Finally, skype also allows one to make voice conference calls two or more callers.

Skype Cons: Although Skype calling fees between computer and phone are very competitive, depending on the country, they can be quite high. In terms of video conferences, many would like to have the ability to video conference with more than two people.

Vs.

Rebtel Pros: Rebtel has an app for android, which makes calling others for free with rebtel convenient for anti apple and skype people. However rebtel also works for with apple products. It allows for very simple and free, provided your friend also uses Rebtel, calling internationally. Also, when dialing international calls, you simply dial the local number and don’t have worry about inserting country codes. Finally, you can dial to over 50 countries for free.

Rebtel Cons: Rebtel is not as well known and so less people are subscribed to it. It also does not feature an international call back service which is essential for prospective business customers. Finally, Rebtel lack live support services,

Conclusion:

Both Skype and Rebtel fill two separate yet overlapping niches. Skype excels in computer to computer calls, while Rebtel should be noted for its phone to phone potential. Since both are nearly the same price to make an international phone call, it really comes down to how many of your friends have Skype verses Rebtel.
