How to Find the Perfect Greek Island for you

July 1, 2013 by The Runaway Guide Leave a Comment

greek-islandsFrom young couples to the more mature, travelling with children or travelling in groups, there’s a Greek island to suit you. But with so many to choose from, it can be difficult to decide which is best. The Greek islands are so diverse; some come with busy night lives, whilst others are perfect for unwinding. Here is our guide to choosing your perfect Greek retreat.

Young couples

When planning holidays to Greece, young couples are often left with the dilemma of whether to take the plunge and party hard, or take a break and stay at one of the calmer resorts. We have the perfect solution to this problem: Karpathos. This beautiful island, just off the coast of Rhodes, offers a peaceful atmosphere, with the option of the busier nightlife in the capital, Pigadia – the best of both worlds! For a romantic meal by the beach, visit Zorina’s Place, Pigadia, where you can soak up the sun while enjoying traditional Greek food. If you are on a budget, check this amazing Greek Island Hopping experience offered by Hostelbay.

Mature couples

As a more mature couple, you may want to steer clear of party destinations like Kos and Malia, but that doesn’t have to mean avoiding their islands altogether. Crete is the largest Greek island, offering twinkling turquoise waters, national parks, and museums and historical attractions waiting to be explored. This is ideal for those looking to relax and take in the sights.

Family Holiday

When taking kids on holiday, it’s important to know that there are places where they will be able to have fun. While the beach and pool are great, kids often get bored and need to be kept occupied. Corfu offers plenty to do for all the family including an aquarium and Aqualand Water Park located in the centre of the island.

Girls/Guys on tour

Greece is a popular destination for stag and hen dos, 18-30 holidays and groups of youngsters looking for a vibrant nightlife, warm weather and the chance to relax. Zante, Mykonos and Kos are all famous for their party offerings and are perfect for big groups looking to wind down by day and let their hair down by night. Visit nightclub Cavo Paradiso in Mykonos, famous for being open air and popular with celebrities.

Culture Lovers

Not everybody sees their holiday as just a chance to top up their tans; many want to explore what their new surroundings have to offer. One of the best islands for cultural discovery is Santorini, where whitewashed buildings sit on the hill tops. Visit Skaros Rock for breathtaking views and Ancient Thera to see the Roman ruins.

Accommodation

If you’re looking for a place to stay, Hostelbay is one of the best solutions regarding affordable accommodation in Greece.
