Geek Guide to New York

June 14, 2012 by The Runaway Guide Leave a Comment

New York City is one of the world’s most important cities, with tons of attractions for all tastes. It doesn’t have to be a bane on your buck, since cheap hotels in New York are easy to come by, so are cheap and interesting things to do. New York City attracts people from all over the nation and the world, making it a central place for innovation and knowledge, and creativity as well. Just walking the streets proves that to you So whether you are  a food geek or a game geek take a look at some of the fun things you’ll have available to you once you get to the city.

Theatre Geeks

For anyone with a strong inner child, Disney offers plenty of attractive things. But this is not Orlando, this is the Big Apple, so what can Disney possibly offer? Well, to get that inner child jumping with joy, head over to the Minskoff Theatre to catch a performance of The Lion King or maybe you’d prefer Wicked, the Book of Mormon or any of a great number of Broadway shows. The colorful sets and lovely musical acts are a great way to experience any story on Broadway.

Gaming Geeks

Calling all gamers out there, Video Games New York is one such shop that you simply must visit. Here, you can geek-out in the best of ways; reviewing the history of video gaming. They even have a little museum in the back where you can see some of the most important titles among gaming legends. This is a great way to feel like a kid again, because where else are you going to find those old consoles?

Book Geeks

If you are a book worm, then New York is going to shape up to be one of your best vacations ever. New and used book stores are dotted all over the city, and so as long as what you’re looking for isn’t too rare, you’re sure to find it. Strand Book Store is one of the best places to see new, used and rare books. With some 18 miles of shelving packed within its walls, you can spend days in here. But try your best to pull yourself away, because there’s more to see!

Food Geeks

New York City is one of the world’s leaders in pizza, and you’ll see why as soon as you arrive; it’s everywhere! There are so many pizzerias it makes you dizzy. A good food geek, though, will go beyond a simple slice, and will instead opt to make it themselves. So, head over to Pizza a Casa Pizza School for a class on how to cook up a stylish New York pizza without the need for advanced degrees in the culinary arts.

Comic Geeks

One of the best things you can do while you’re in town is head over to the Midtown Comic store, as featured on the HostelBookers.com  Geek Travel Map. You have a choice of three locations, each of which adapts to its surroundings and boasts different vibes altogether. A true comic geek will never pass up the chance to browse through one of the best collections of comic books around. You can accidentally spend a lot of time in this place revisiting your childhood heroes, so make sure you plan accordingly.

Whatever your passion New York has it all and you can ‘geekout’ to your heart’s content before it’s time to hit the famous cocktail bars. Enjoy your Trip!
