5 Amazing Thailand Adventures

August 17, 2013 by The Runaway Guide Leave a Comment

thailand-ride-elephantFrom stumbling upon mysterious, uninhabited islands to traversing dense tropical jungles, holidays in Thailand offer one fascinating adventure after the next. If you prefer hiking trails over cocktails and muddy soil over tanning oil, then the diverse landscapes of Thailand won’t let you down. Here are five of the coolest ways to spend a day in this Southeast Asian paradise:

1. Ziplining Through the Rainforests of Chiang Mai

Sail through the lush jungles of Chiang Mai on a guided ziplining adventure. Swing across cables strung high above the forest floor, walk along the swaying sky bridges and repel deep into the surrounding vegetation.

2. Kayak Around Ko Chang

Rent a kayak from Lonely Beach on the southwest coast of Thailand’s Koh Chang island. Paddle out to one of the many deserted islands nearby and enjoy a peaceful picnic on the beach. If you’re not quite pro enough to go out alone, a number of companies offer guided day trips that include tutorials on different rowing techniques.

3. Abseil Down a Waterfall on Doi Inthanon

What better way to explore the majestic Doi Inthanon mountain in Chiang Mai than to abseil down one of its most stunning waterfalls? A guided trek will take you to the powerful Wachiratarn Waterfall for a guaranteed adrenaline rush.

4. Navigate the Busy Damnoen Saduak Floating Market

This famous market is situated atop a khlong (canal) in the Damnoen Saduak District, about 100 km southwest of Bangkok. Vendors pile their goods – fresh produce, seafood and souvenirs – on wooden canoes and sell to people gathered along the canal’s edge.

5. Go Elephant Trekking Over Kata Noi Bay

Ride an elephant through the lush jungles of Phuket while enjoying stunning views over the beautiful Kata Noi Bay. Guided treks are led by expert elephant trainers and last from 20-minutes to an hour, depending on your preference.

Over 10 years later and I'm still "on the run," surviving in style, thriving off adventure, searching for that elusive road to enlightenment, and cultivating the life of travel that I want to live.
