You Know You’re In Sweden When…

July 12, 2014 by The Runaway Guide 3 Comments

QXsyWAfter spending any amount of time in Sweden, you realize that all the stereotypes you ever heard are true. It’s a country full of ridiculously beautiful blondes, masterfully made moose meatballs and functioning alcoholics.

It’s colder and darker in the winter than your miserable outlook on life after trying to assemble an Ikea bed. And it’s all so charming and cute from city cafes to countryside cottages that you may feel inclined to punch a puppy in the face.

But Sweden isn’t merely the sum of it’s stereotypes. Believe you me, it can get much more Swedish than that.

You Know You’re In Sweden When…

1) When a morbid moose related highway accident turns into magnificent moose meatball dinner.

More moose in Sweden then people…well, just about

2) When freezing rain and sub zero temperatures is no excuse for a swim in the sea.

3) When you find old pairs of skis in every second dumpster.

4) When you discover that yogurt comes in hundreds of different consistencies and flavors.

Life is full of decisions and in Sweden, choosing the right yogurt is one of those tough ones

Of the many difficult decisions in life, choosing the right Yogurt is now one of them

5) When you spend 5 dollars on a can of coke.

6) When you feel the need to buy a tight pink shirt and blue capris to fit in.

7) When even the lady at the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) greets you with a smile.

8) When you spend more time trying to identify your white Volvo among the hundreds of others in the parking lot than you do driving it.

Which one's mine???

9) When people invite you for a short walk in the forest but actually mean an 8 hour trek.

They told me we'd only be gone for an hour…5 hours later

10) When not only cars but also bicycles are fitted with iron threaded snow tires.

Who Is The Runaway Guide?

When I was 16 I ran away from home and traveled the world with nothing but the clothes on my back. Over 10 years later and I'm still "on the run," surviving in style, thriving off adventure, searching for that elusive road to enlightenment, and cultivating the life of travel that I want to live.
