30 Awesome Adventures On The Cheap

5 Awesome Adventures by Boat

If you don’t get seasick, there’s nothing like an adventure on the high seas. Below are are 5 ways to get around by boat on the cheap.

Catch A Cargo Ship Around The World

There are a few different shipping companies that offer a cruise like experience around the world. They generally stop in 10 to 15 ports for a few days, which gives you a chance to explore. Although the prices often equal that of a proper cruise, there is always the option of working for a discount. It never hurts to ask. For more info, check out Freighter Cruises.

Become A Deckhand On A Luxury Yacht

If you’re into yachting, this is definitely an adventure to consider. Not only will you get to cruise around the Mediterranean or Caribbean for 6 months but you’ll get paid a healthy 2000 Euro minimum salary. Although it’s easier to land a job as a deckhand if you have experience, it is often overlooked if you have good social skills and are easy going. To learn how to get the job, check out this extensive guide, How To Work On A Luxury Yacht.

Volunteer On The Gotenbørg

The Gotenborg is the world’s largest operational wooden sailing vessel. Every year it takes on 40 volunteers for a cruise around Europe. Unfortunately volunteers must pay to join the crew. Fortunately if you apply as a photographer or filmmaker the adventure is free. For more information, see here, Swedish Ship Goteborg.

Become A Pirate

Piracy  remains a big business in both Somalia and Indonesia. It’s a bit insane and dangerous but definitely a cheap adventure. If you think you got what it takes to be a modern day pirate then this is the adventure is for you. Check out this guide for more info, How To Become A Pirate.

Sail The Infamous Darien Gap

This adventure takes you on a 5 day cruise from the San Blas Islands of Panama to Cartagena, Colombia. Although it’s a little pricy at 550$ one way, the experience is definitely worth it. And if you’re lucky, you might be able to work in exchange for the ride. For more info, check out, Crossing The Darien Gap On An 85 Foot Yacht.
