Awesome Adventures by Motorcycle

If you’re not a motorcyclist, well then you ought to think about becoming one. Riding a motorcycle invokes a sensation of flight and unrivaled freedom. Since motorcycles were invented, countless  men and women have embarked on motorcycle tours around the world. Admittedly, motorcycles are probably the most dangerous forms of travel but as long as you don’t get cocky and take calculated risks, chances are you’ll be just fine. Below are some of the most popular motorcycle adventures across the world.

Ride Through Central America

If you live in the US, there really isn’t any reason not to motorcycle to Central America. It’s really close, incredibly affordable, and has some delicious tacos among other great latin dishes. Many backpackers and motorcyclists alike end up on the infamous Gringo Trail, which equates to short rides between awesome cities and never ending backpacking parties. One of the best aspects about riding in Central America is that many hostels have garages to keep your bike safe at night. I recently met a 24 year old girl in Panama who rode her Kawasaki all the way from Edmonton. To learn about her story, check out Megan The Motorcycling Mamacita.

Ride In The Mongol Rally

The Mongol Rally isn’t just for cars. In fact, if you are up for it, they also allow bikes under 100 cc to join. There are loads chances to break down, pop a tire in the middle of nowhere and get stuck in rivers. It is a motorcycle journey for an experienced rider and adventurist to say the least. For info about joining as a motorcyclist, check out theadventurists.com

Ride Through South East Asia

One of the beautiful things about South East Asia is that you can easily buy a cheap Chinese motorcycle for around 1000$. You can start in Malaysia and then work your way up Thailand and even head to Vietnam if you dare. The pork is always hot and on a stick, refreshing coconuts can be found everywhere, and theres a good chance you’ll unknowingly shack up with a lady boy. Now that’s an adventure. Check out this video of a couple who motorcycled Thailand together, Fearful Adventurer.

Ride From Cairo To Cape Town

Motorcycling through Africa is on the expensive side but definitely the adventure of a lifetime. You will be stopped by border control and most likely extorted. You will probably go down a few times on unpaved mountain roads. You may even catch Malaria. But you will get to experience Africa like few others, mile by mile. One of the most popular routes is Cairo to Capetown. Countless motorcyclists and even bicyclists take this route every year. To get a better idea of the ride, check out this great documentary by Ewan McGregor, The Long Way Down.

Ride Through Scandinavia

Admittedly, this is probably one of the most expensive motorcycle tours. Norway and Sweden are two of the most expensive countries in the world and have gas and food prices to match. However, if you can afford it, you will get to soar through some of the most breathtaking roads in the world. It is a motorcyclist’s paradise. Check out this video to see what I mean, Norway’s Atlantic Road.
